Biomimicry: Nature as Blueprint

KAI RUWITCH

This video explores the Catalyst engineering project, in which students applied biomimicry to develop solutions to real-world problems. This piece highlights the problem-solving skills students bring to Catalyst, as well as the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of the program. Bodhi Compton, a student in the program, explained that biomimicry was “a way to innovate and tackle problems that nature has already solved for us” and that it was “something that we often overlook.” This approach encouraged students to view natural systems as blueprints for their problem-solving projects, reinforcing Catalyst’s emphasis on systems thinking and long-term problem solving.
