Meet Quincy Jones: An Interview with Menlo’s Newest College Counselor
We are excited to introduce Quincy Jones, who will be joining Menlo’s College Counseling team on July 15.

QUINCY JONES Associate Director of College Counseling
Most recently, Quincy served as a lead college counselor at Crimson and previously worked as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of California, Berkeley, bringing extensive experience in both college admissions and student advising.
In an exceptionally strong applicant pool, Quincy stood out for his expertise, warmth, and student-centered approach. We are delighted to share a brief snippet of our conversation with Quincy and look forward to you getting to know him better when he joins us on campus this fall.
1) What is your ideal breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
I’m a breakfast guy so that’s where I like to go all in. Pancakes, grits, cheese eggs, crispy bacon, and some sort of green juice so I can pretend I’m being healthy. For lunch and dinner? Pizza.
2) What are two things people might not know about you?
- I’m a collector. Movies, books, and vinyl albums are my main go-tos, along with the occasional regional hot sauce.
- I’m a writer. I’ve done some poetry and a few short stories but my focus right now is screenwriting.
3) How did you get into college counseling?
Ms. Joyner. She was my college adviser during both middle and high school and the help that she gave me was invaluable. I got the chance to help students in a similar way while I was in undergrad and I haven’t looked back since.
4) Why Menlo?
The counseling team at Menlo reminded me of why I started doing this work in the first place. The care and dedication that they put into the work to make sure that they are at their best for the students is so exciting to me and I can’t wait to be part of that. Also, I heard you all were good at sports and I’d like to see for myself.
5) What is one piece of advice you’d offer to a student starting the college application process?
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Everything from building a balanced college list to editing the verbs you use in your activities descriptions to working and reworking your essays will take time, focus and dedication. Make a plan and go through the steps. You’ll get there. We promise!
