A Closer Look at Undergraduate Business Programs
As interest in undergraduate business continues to grow among our students, I want to highlight a group of colleges that consistently stand out for their unique approach to teaching business.

Below is not a ranking, nor is it an exhaustive list. Instead, think of these as a set of thoughtfully different entry points into the study of business, each with its own personality and strengths.
Southern Methodist University – Cox School of Business
SMU offers an undergraduate business experience that feels both polished and personal. The Cox School’s location in Dallas places students in the middle of a thriving business ecosystem, with strong pipelines into finance, consulting, real estate, and entrepreneurship. What appeals to most Menlo students is the balance: rigorous academics paired with a collaborative culture and excellent access to internships during the academic year, plus a lively and spirited campus culture. For students who thrive in structured environments and value professional polish, SMU can be a terrific fit.
Indiana University Bloomington – Kelley School of Business
Indiana’s Kelley School is considered a benchmark for undergraduate business education. Kelley combines the scale, school spirit, and resources of a large public university with an unusually intentional and boutique undergraduate business experience. Direct admission, immersive workshops, and one of the strongest alumni networks in the country make this a powerful option for students who are ready to be proactive early. Kelley tends to reward students who are organized and ambitious; moreover, students at Kelley should be ready to take ownership of their path and educational goals.
Babson College
Babson, located in Massachusetts, occupies a category all its own. With entrepreneurship woven into every corner of the curriculum, Babson is ideal for students who are builders at heart. Their students are typically quick to start projects, iterate quickly, and learn through doing. Business here is hands-on from the start. Even students who don’t envision founding a company benefit from Babson’s entrepreneurial mindset, which emphasizes creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving in real-world contexts.
Bentley University
Bentley, also located in Massachusetts, offers a highly focused, professionally oriented business education with particular strengths in accounting, finance, analytics, and technology-driven business fields. A mid-sized college located just outside Boston, Bentley students benefit from strong internship access while still enjoying the feel of a traditional campus.
Syracuse University – Whitman School of Management
Syracuse’s Whitman School combines academic rigor with a strong sense of community and school spirit. Whitman emphasizes experiential learning, global opportunities, and early professional development, supported by an alumni network that is famously loyal and engaged. Students who want the resources of a larger university alongside a distinctly undergraduate-focused business school often find Syracuse to be a compelling and energizing option.
Finding Fit
In our experience, students get the most out of college when they find a place that is both supportive and energizing. Many students can flourish in large, resource-rich universities; others prefer cozier, tightly knit communities similar to Menlo. Take solace in knowing that there is no single “best” undergraduate business program. Instead, focus on places where you will build momentum toward a future that feels both successful, fulfilling, and fun!
